Overview:

A two-day course that will support attendees to develop a range of clinical and practical skills . The course focuses on developing the clinical skills and competencies that are essential in advanced clinical practice.

Key Learning Outcomes:

The course will support attendees in providing evidence for the following clinical care competencies

  • Recognition of acute illness
  • Immediate management of acutely unwell patients
  • Cardiac and respiratory arrest
  • Do not resuscitate orders
  • End of life care
  • Care after death

The following practical skills are covered on the course:

  • IV cannulation
  • Prepare and administer IV medications and injections
  • Arterial puncture in an adult
  • Blood culture from peripheral sites
  • Intravenous infusion including the prescription of fluids
  • Intravenous infusion of blood and blood products
  • Injection of local anaesthetic to skin
  • Perform and interpret peak flow
  • Urethral catheterisation (male)
  • Urethral catheterisation (female)
  • Airway care including simple adjuncts (eg Guedel airway or laryngeal masks)

Target Audience:

This course is aimed at allied health professionals and nurses who are either in advanced clinical practice training or who are preparing to develop their advanced clinical practice knowledge and skills.
