This simulation-based course will run from 08:20AM – 16:00PM

This Advanced and Complex Communication Skills Course is especially designed for people new to the UK who may experience cultural differences or not had formal training in communication at medical schools.

The course is also open to any other trust-employed doctors or those in training posts who would like experience using simulation in difficult situations such as breaking bad news or dealing with conflict.

Learning objectives

•To discuss an area of conflict with a simulated patient

•To discuss an area of conflict with a simulated member of staff

•To break bad news with a simulated patient

•To discuss a medical error with a simulated patient

•To engage in feedback regarding the four simulated videos

•To practice active listening

•To discuss terminology to enhance civility.

•To discuss limitations and restrictions to communication

•To evaluate written communication in a discharge summary

Target audience:

Suitable for international medical graduates who would like to gain experience in dealing with situations that require advanced and complex communication skills.
