This course will provide the knowledge necessary for the effective treatment and stabilisation of children with life threatening emergencies.

Practical procedures will be taught that are necessary to effectively manage the paediatric emergency and testing in these skills will take place at the end of the course in simulated scenarios.

The course includes:

  • Demonstrations – new born resuscitation, serious injury simulation
  • Skills sessions and workshops – basic and advanced life support, vascular access
  • Interactive sessions – assessing the acutely ill child, structured approach

Duration: 3 day course with the first day being a flexible one-day on-line component (VLE) and a two-day face-to-face component (F2F) which is the part of the course held at The James Cook University Hospital on the dates above.

Aimed at: A medical, nursing, ECP, ODP or RTO background, Physician’s Assistants for which APLS is relevant to their working practice, Experienced level 5 staff nurses, RTOs from any background who work in a paediatric hospital are eligible to take the programme.

Certification: Once candidates have completed both elements of this course, it will allow them to be a certified APLS provider.  Candidates can continue to access the on-line learning environment for a period of 4 years whilst your APLS certificate is valid and can be used as part of your CPD
