Brief overview:

This half day simulation training course is targeted to the particular challenges of working as a senior physician. The courses incorporates five scenarios designed to imitate, as closely as possible, some of the common challenges faced by senior medical doctors.

In each session, the focus is on learning with a detailed debrief following each scenario in which the experience is discussed, non-judgemental feedback is provided and a development plan is agreed so that learning can be applied to clinical practice.

Course Aims & Objectives:

This course focuses on communication scenarios that are commonly challenging for senior doctors. There is an opportunity to practice these skills and share experiences in a safe space.

Scenarios include:

  • Breaking bad news
  • Dealing with threatened self discharge 
  • Dealing with complaints 
  • Duty of candour after medical error
  • Conflict management 
  • Decision making at the end of life
  • Communicating uncertainty and risk

Target Audience

This event is for General Medicine Registrars (Acute, Respiratory, Diabetes, Infectious Diseases, Gastroenterology, Cardiology, Rheumatology, Neurology, Renal, Haematology, Oncology, OPM, Dermatology, Palliative Care)
